Biographical / Historical
John Maunsell Bacon (1866-1948) was born on 13 September 1866. He was educated at Felsted School; Selwyn College, Cambridge, BA 1888, MA 1898; and the Sorbonne, Paris. He worked as headmaster of Winton House School, headmaster of Lincoln Grammar School, and assistant master at Trent College. He was appointed secretary of St Stephen’s Club, London, 1912-14, and he was employed in the Censor’s Office, 1914-18. He retired in 1919 and devoted himself to collecting antiques, particularly glass. He was a founder of the London Glass Circle. He died on 8 April 1948.
