Biographical / Historical
This C18th cope was purchased by Spink & Son in 1984 and was presented to Selwyn College by Mrs Gardner in memory of her son. It was displayed in the dining room of the Master's Lodge before being transferred to the Archives in about 2003.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
The cope was presented to the College by Mrs Gardner in memory of her son, Anthony Gardner (SE 1968-72), who died in 1992 or 1993 from a tragic illness.
