Biographical / Historical

Professor John Trim (1924-2013), Selwyn College Fellow in Linguistics from 1962 to 1978, when he was appointed Director of CILT (the London-based Centre for Information on Language Teaching). As Head of the Department of Linguistics, Professor Trim laid the foundations of what in 1990 became the University of Cambridge Language Centre, which, in recognition of his signal contribution, duly named its facility for independent language learning the John Trim Centre
