Biographical / Historical

Edward Balme Wheatley-Balme (1819-96) was a friend of Bishop Abraham who encouraged him to make a very generous bequest to the new College. The inscription over the door of Staircase B commemorates his first benefaction of £3000. At his death in 1896 he left to the College a valuable library and £1000.
