Scope and Contents
Documents relating to events held by the Cambridge Philosophical Society to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the granting of its charter. Including:
Poster advertising a lecture by Lord Briggs (Provost of Worcester College, Oxford) on the Social and Cultural Context of Science, 1832-51, to be held 8 November 1982;
Two audio cassette tapes of Lord Briggs’ lecture, as above, 8 November 1982 (master tape and copy tape);
Lecture card listing Cambridge Philosophical Society lectures to be held Michaelmas Term 1982 (including Lord Briggs’ lecture as above);
24 colour photographs (with list of names, subjects etc) taken at a reception in the Museum of Zoology, Cambridge, 8 November 1982 [these appear to include photographs of the birds on display, as in the list below];
Correspondence and papers concerning a small exhibition held at the above reception, including draft captions, some of which comprise short biographies of early members, including John Henslow, Adam Sedgwick, Edward Daniel Clarke, William Farish, Charles Babbage, George Green, and Srinivasa Ramanujan;
Manuscript list of ten stuffed birds formerly belonging to the Society displayed at the Museum of Zoology exhibition.
