Correspondence between Alfred Newton (Cambridge Philosophical Society and Magdalene College), Mr Glazebrook (the Society), John Murray (Challenger Expedition Office, 32 Queen Street, Edinburgh) and The Controller of the Stationery Office concerning a request by the Society for a gift of a series of the volumes of the ‘Challenger’ [expedition] Report (referring also to a similar request made some years previously). [The Challenger Expedition of 1872-76 was a scientific exercise whose discoveries laid the foundations of oceanography. The gift was ultimately granted by the Stationery Office October 1887.]
