Scope and Contents

Meetings recorded in this volume were held variously at the Cavendish Laboratory; the Chemical Laboratory; the Botany School; the Comparative Anatomy Lecture Room; the Engineering Laboratory, Scroope House; the Pathology School; the Molteno Institute of Parasitology; the Physical Chemistry Laboratory; the School of Agriculture; the Physiology Lecture Theatre; the Zoological Laboratory; the Department of Geography; the Department of Colloid Science; the Department of Anatomy; the University Farm, Huntingdon Road; the Strangeways Research Laboratory, Hills Road; and the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology. Some of these meetings took the form of specific visits to / tours of the said laboratories, departments etc.
Tipped in at front: printed charter / abstract of laws prescribed by the charter / bye-laws / regulations for the Hopkins Prize, 1938; printed list of fellows and honorary members as at 1939;
p.102: a report on the future of the Philosophical Library, ie its accommodation, including proposals for a possible move to the Arts School, is pasted in;
9 June 1947: special general meeting to consider amendments to the bye-laws, including the addition of a new bye-law concerning Senior Associates.
Few papers were actually read at meetings by this date, but authors of note whose papers are mentioned in the minutes include: P A M Dirac, E V Appleton, J Larmor, J Needham, G Gamow, E D Adrian, H F Baker, J B S Haldane, J D Cockcroft, E T S Walton, F P Bowden, C P Snow, J D Bernal, E Rutherford, and Honor Fell.
