The revenue from the estates supported lecturers in Algebra as follows: Lady Sadleir, widow first of William Croone, MD, Fellow of Emmanuel College and the proposer of the scheme, and then of Sir Edwin Sadleir, by her will dated 25 September 1701, made provision for lectures in the different colleges 'for the full and clear explication and teaching that part of mathematical knowledge commonly called algebra'.
