Scope and Contents
Sara Mason, widow, of West Althorne, Essex, and William Button, farmer, of same, enter into a bond of £20 with John Havers, innkeeper, of Thaxted, Essex, dated 4 March 1697. The condition being that whereas Sara Mason and William Button by a deed of feoffment of same date have granted to John Havers etc. a messuage and orchard now in occupation of Francis Hopwood, in Thaxted in Watling Street and betwixt said Watling Street, Bell Lane. Now if the said Sara and William at the time of sealing were lawfully seized of the messuage ... and had full powers to sell and said John Havers shall ... peaceably occupy ... then the above obligation is void. Signed by Sara Mason and William Button, their marks. Witnessed by Fras. Dorrington, Thomas [...standing?], Henry Guy, and William Smethe.
