Scope and Contents

These notebooks, loose drafts, letters and diaries of Siegfried Sassoon were purchased by Cambridge University Library in March 2006 from Roy Davids Ltd, acting on behalf of their owner George Sassoon, son of Siegfried Sassoon. They had formerly been in the possession of Sir Rupert Hart-Davis, who accumulated them in the process of editing Sassoon's diaries, letters and poems for publication.

The collection is arranged in three sections according to document type: poetical notebooks and drafts, diaries, and letters.

Existence and Location of Copies

Formerly part of MS Add.9454; the remaining part of Rupert Hart-Davis' Siegfried Sassoon collection was transferred to the University of Tulsa in 2001. The entire Hart-Davis collection (MS Add.9454, incorporating both the manuscripts now comprising MS Add.9724 and those in Tulsa) was microfilmed before the transfer to Tulsa and can be consulted as MSS Microfilm 11283-11287.
