Scope and Contents
'Journal of Proceedings of HMS Galatea kept by JW Ramsay Lieutt'. Log covering the journey from Auckland, New Zealand, to Plymouth, England, 1 June 1869 - 31 May 1871, containing remarks on the voyage via Tahiti, Honolulu, Yokohama, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore, Malacca, Penang, Calcutta, Madras, Colombo, Trincomalee, Galle, Port Louis, Cape of Good Hope, Wellington, Sydney, New Caledonia, Auckland, Port Stanley, Montevideo, and Plymouth. It contains notes on the reception by King Kamehamaha IV and Queen Emma of Hawaii, by the Mikado at Nagasaki, the Duke of Edinburgh's investiture as GCSI at Calcutta, and the reception for seven Indian rajahs.
