Letters to Sir George Fleming, Bishop of Carlisle, from Mrs. Mary Fleming
Scope and Contents
With one exception the letters listed below were written to Bishop Fleming by his sister-in-law, Mary Fleming (née Fletcher), widow of his brother Henry. Mrs. Fleming seems to have lived in London throughout the period covered by the correspondence, and her letters acquaint the Bishop (who spent a large part of each year in his diocese) with ecclesiastical and political gossip, news of relatives and friends, and the rents of certain episcopal properties that she has received on his behalf.
