Tom Salkield Delhi Album 1905-1916
Scope and Contents
An album containing 139 prints, mostly captioned, and one separate group photograph. From internal evidence it was the property of Tom Salkield. The majority of the photographs relate to his family - his wife Mary and their children Nancy, Leonard, Robert and John (born circa 1910). There are however 25 photographs (115-139) relating to his professional work, and a group photograph (140) shows him as a Captain in the 1st Punjab Volunteer Rifles. The photographs are, for the most part, amateur snapshots not exceeding 110 x 50 mm. They are gelatine bromide prints.
Separate listing has been limited to photographs which show particular subjects, buildings, or individuals in India other than family (though only one has been identified beyond the caption details). Several leaves of the album are detached, and the chronology is not exact. Captions are normally those below the photos, but a few additional details have been added, and titles for uncaptioned photographs are in brackets. Photographers unknown.
