Custodial History
The inaugural lecture was not published during Housman’s lifetime, and the manuscript was destroyed after his death. A typescript copy was discovered in 1967 among the papers of Laurence Housman by John Carter, who published it in the Times Literary Supplement.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The typescript was presented to Cambridge University Library in 1968 by R.E. Symons Esq, owner of the document and legatee of the A.E. Housman copyrights.
