Draft of an intended book by Walter Little concerning the life, historical context and reputation of General Sir Charles James Napier (1782-1853). The draft was in an advanced stage of development when Dr Little died. The work treats Napier’s life from a biographical perspective but does so with reference to a range of contexts: military, social and imperial. The document is a word-processed version with manuscript amendments, photocopied in 2024. Some sheets are marked '© Walter Little 2012'.

The draft consists of thirteen chapters with preliminaries, epilogue, glossary and bibliography. The preliminaries are foliated [i]-vi. Chapters 1-12 are paginated [1]-281. Chapter 13 has a separate foliation running from [427] to 439. The epilogue, glossary and bibliography are foliated 295-308. There are illustrations on some pages.
