Biographical / Historical
A prize fund was established in 1930 by Mrs Frewen Lord in memory of her late husband, Walter Frewen Lord (1861-1927), professor of Modern History at Durham University and author of 'England and France in the Mediterranean 1660-1830' and other studies on colonial history. It was awarded on an annual basis by the Royal Commonwealth Society for scholarly work on some aspect of British Empire or Commonwealth History, restricted to scholars under the age of 35 years looking to publish their first book.
