Content Description

Three notebooks containing bibliographical notes on ecology from publications primarily in English and German language, first half of twentieth century. Two photocopies (one black and white and one colour) of a painting titled the Naturalists by L.J. Watson, depicting A.S. Watt. A.G. Tansley, C. Diver and E.B. Ford based on a tour of the Suffolk Heaths with the artist in 1949. The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy exhibition at Burlington House in 1956 and purchased by the Nature Conservancy for £65. Another version of the same painting was purchased for the Botany School, University of Cambridge, by Professor R.G. West. Letter from L.J. Watson to A.S. Watt 8 May 1956 about the painting. Note on the painting by Bill Block for the British Ecological Society (one typescript and one photocopy of published version). Obituaries of A.S. Watt for Journal of Ecology, Vol. 73 and Biographical Memoirs of the Royal Society, Vol. 35.
