Indenture of recovery and release of lands, Wilburton, Cambridgeshire
Scope and Contents
Thomas Towers of Watlington, Norfolk, gent., releases to Henry Clift of Furnivall's Inn, London, for the 'barring of all estates [?] and remainders' land devised to him and his heir and nephew, John Towers, by his late father George Towers of Godscroft, Norfolk, viz. a messuage of about 40 acres in Wilburton, Cambs., another piece of about 20 acres and fen-land, also in Wilburton in the occupation of Robert Tubbs, and about 17 acres of land and pasture in the occupation of John Hunt, also in Wilburton. Henry Clift has been in possession of these lands by virtue of a bargain, made to him for 6 months. Thomas and John Towers, by virtue of release bearing date 1 & 2 June 1689 made between them on the one part and Edmund Rolfe and John Berney, gent., of the other part did assure these lands to Henry Clift until a perfect recovery may be had of the same against H.C. And now Thos. Towers grants these lands to Edward Ashcroft of Wiggenhall St. [Jammans?], Norfolk, gent., and H.C. is to permit him a writ of entry before the Court of Common Bench in Westminster, all to be done at the costs and charges of Thos. Towers. Signed by Thomas Towers, Henry Clift, and Edward Ashcroft. Three seals attached.
