Scope and Contents

Whereas Queen Elizabeth by Letters Patent dated 26 September 1600 [Doc 444,445] granted to Thomas Ascham, John Ascham of London and Roger Ascham the rectory of Whittlesford with the appurtenances, except the timber and the advowson of the church, for the term of their lives, at a certain rent during the lifetime of Dudley Ascham and at a certain further rent after his decease; and whereas Thomas Ascham by deed dated 15 November 1608 [Doc 448, 449] sold to Gregory Milner of Sawston and Robert Symons of Whittlesford the rectory and lands, one half to Robert Symons for the life of Thomas Ascham, and one half to Gregory Milner for the same term; Thomas Ascham also agreed to procure that John Ascham and Roger Ascham on attaining their majority should execute deeds of conveyance to Robert Symons and Gregory Milner, they paying a certain sum in certain proportions to each as soon as the conveyance was made, but before the agreement could be made Thomas Ascham died; John Ascham lets to Robert Symons one half of the rectory and lands for a term of seventy years if John Ascham lives so long; John Ascham agrees to procure that Roger Ascham shall make a similar conveyance on attaining his majority.
