Scope and Contents

In consideration of an undisclosed sum, Robert Saxbey [Saxbye, Sexbye, Sexbey] of Yalding, Kent, clothier, conveys to Stephen Saxbye his brother, citizen and grocer of London, a messuage or tenement called Pagys in Burfield, Berkshire, containing some twelve acres of land, which property is now or was late occupied by Margaret Owen of Burfield, widow. Saxbey enjoys the property by right of gift from Henry Bate, embroiderer and Alexander Prescot, goldsmith, both citizens of London, as will appear from a deed dated 8 May 1612, it being part of the estate of Alexander Ashurst, of the parish of St Augustine near [St] Paul's, London, citizen and draper, deceased, disposed of under the terms of his 1609 will. Saxbey appoints John Randoll of Goudhurst, Lancashire, his attorney to deliver seisin. Deed poll, signed and sealed by Saxbey, witnessed by Daniel Felton, Christopher Favell, James Goodyer, and Robert Minchard. Endorsed with certificate of livery of seisin, 12 May 1617, including transfer of Margaret Owen's tenancy, and witnessed by Richard Potinger, Richard Attwater, Isaack Trehearne his mark, and Wydo [Margaret] Owen her mark.
