Scope and Contents

In consideration of œ325, John Archer Houblon esq of Hallingbury Place, Essex, the Revd William Smith of Dry Drayton, Cambridgeshire, and the Revd Charles Smith of East Garston, Berkshire (3rd parties), acting as trustees under an 1841 settlement for the marriage between Alexander Cotton esq of Hildersham Hall, Cambridgeshire (1st party), and Henrietta Smith, convey to Robert Goodwin as rector of Hildersham, Cambridgeshire (4th party) about three acres of freehold called 'Church Pightle' and 'Chalk Pit Close' in Hildersham, now in the occupation of Thomas Webb. The property, among many other pieces of land, was formerly twice mortgaged by Cotton to Houblon and Sir Charles Wager Watson of Wratting, Cambridgeshire (2nd parties), the latter now giving their consent to the sale. Four-part indenture of three pages, signed and sealed by Cotton, Houblon, Watson, and both Smiths, witnessed by Thomas Webb of Manor Farm, Hildersham, Henry Denton of Lincoln's Inn, Henry William Pickard of Hooton, Yorkshire, J [or F] Fortescue, clerk, and Lamb[ert?] Hotchkin of The Mall, Kensington; duty stamps. Endorsed with receipts for consideration monies, same date, with the signatures of Houblon, both Smiths, and Cotton, witnessed by Fortescue, Hotchkin, Pickard, and Webb. Parchment supplied by Abram of The Temple. Small coloured plan of property on first membrane.
