Gift of land, Chesterton, Cambridgeshire
Scope and Contents
On 8 Dec 21 Richard II, John Kyrkeby of Cambridgeshire and William Baldewell, citizen and goldsmith of London, conveyed to John le Hore of Great Childerle[y], Cambridgeshire, all the lands and tenements in the vill of Chesterton which they held by the gift and feoffment of Walter Panfeld, formerly citizen and gold[smith] of London. John le Hore has since died, and the lands have descended to his son Gilbert le Hore esq. In return for #8 6s 8d, payable in instalments, Gilbert now confirms his gift of the same lands to Juliana and Margaret Paunfeld, daughters and heirs of Thomas Paunfeld, who was in turn son of the aforesaid Walter Panfeld. Reversion to the other sister should one die without heir, and to Gilbert should both do so. Tripartite indenture, witnessed by Thomas Lovell, John Battesford, William Colyn, Simon Prik', and others. Pendant tagged red round armorial and monogram seals of both sisters, one tag cut from a deed of 18 Henry VI. Endorsed in a ?sixteenth-century hand: 'Carta Gilberti Hore / filius et heres Johannis Hore' and further endorsed: ?Revocatio terrar' in Chesterton / Gilberto Hoore de Ellysfeld in / Com' Oxon''. In pencil at top right: '20'.
