Scope and Contents
Nicholas Wyke of Ellesfeld [Elsfield], Oxfordshire, confirms his gift (with warranty) to Henry Markham, of all his lands and tenements in Elsfield. He also has given to Markham a yearly rent of a pair of gloves and, after four years, 12d for a cottage in Elsfield currently leased by William Clyve of Oxford, baker, and his wife Joan, for their lives, together with the reversion of the property. Deed poll, witnessed by John Fitz Elys, William de Ellesfeld, Richard Forester, Lambert [torn], Laurence Cotesmore, Thomas Chibenhurst, William Cok' de Whateleye, William Wyke de Ellesfeld, Richard Bailly de [torn], and others. Pendant tagged red round seal (damaged) of ?Nicholas Wyke, with device incorporating a cross of equal arms and (possibly) four faces. Endorsed in a later hand: 'Carta de terris [in] / Ellisfeld de N[icholas?] / Wyk'. In pencil at top right: '11'.
