Scope and Contents
In consideration of #400, John Bass of Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire, gent, and Rebeccah his wife (1st parties) mortgage (in the form of a 1,000-year lease at peppercorn rent) to Thomas Halfhyde of Potton, Bedfordshire, gent (2nd party), various specified properties in Gamlingay, containing 67 acres, currently occupied by Bass. Bass further covenants to levy a fine in favour of Halfhyde's trustee, William Cloak of Potton, gent (3rd party). Reference to earlier mortgages of part of the premises to Nicholas Phips snr of Potton, now deceased, John Winn of Biggleswade, and to Elizabeth ?Bangley, Rebecca's mother. Tripartite indenture, signed and sealed by John and Rebecca Bass, witnessed by Samuel and Richard Luke; duty stamps. Endorsed with receipt for consideration money, same date, signed by John Bass, same witnesses. Further contemporary endorsement: 'Date it 23d May 1730 which is before the terme', and: 'No 30'. Also endorsed with an undated note by John Bass, declaring an error in the deed, witnessed by Samuel Luke. Detailed terrier attached as a second membrane.
