Scope and Contents
In November 1839, John Hancock of Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire, grocer, mortgaged for #350 3+ acres in Fulbourn to William Adams of Cambridge, gent (1st party). In October 1843, Hancock, together with his wife Jane, remortgaged for #200 his interest in this and in other properties to Stephen Adcock of Cambridge, gent (2nd party), recognising the life interest of Susan Hancock of Cambridge, widow, who has since died. Adcock is owed a further #50 as an equitable mortgage. Hancock has defaulted on both mortgages, Adams has decided to sell, and at an auction at the Six Bells public house in Fulbourn on 11 Sep 1845, William Dawson of Burwell, grocer and draper (3rd party), has successfully bid #199 10s for the property, which is hereby conveyed to him with Adcock's consent. Frederick Randall of Cambridge, gent (4th party) is named as Dawson's trustee. Covenant to produce deeds. Four-part indenture, signed and sealed by Adams, Adcock, and Dawson, witnessed by J ?Bell jnr, clerk to Adcock, and by W[illiam] G[arfit] Ashton of Cambridge, solicitor; duty stamps. Endorsed with receipt for consideration money, witnessed by Ashton. Parchment provided by G Gibbs of the Blackfriars Road, engraving by Silvester of The Strand.
