Scope and Contents

The will of Thomas Fox snr, gent, alderman of Cambridge. He requests burial in the parish church of All Saints, Cambridge. He leaves bequests of furniture and silver to his wife Susannah, and various tree plantations around Cambridge, together with #10 and 2.5 acres in Newnham Crofts, to his son Thomas. To Thomas's three children Elizabeth, Anna, and Thomas, he leaves #10 apiece. To his son Rowland he leaves his dwelling house in All Saints, Cambridge, which he holds on a lease from Jesus College, and all his lands in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, with reversion in default of any heir to his son Thomas. Rowland is also to receive #300, some silver, and the furniture in his best chamber. He gives #10 to his daughter Elizabeth Fox, and #400 apiece to his daughters Susannah and Ursula Fox upon their marriage or majority. His son Richard Fox is to receive lands in Fulbourn, Swav[e]sey, and #300 upon marriage or majority. Small bequests of silver or money to his daughter Sarah Lodington, and to other relations and friends. 40s is to go to the poor of All Saints parish. Everything else is left to his wife, who is appointed sole executrix. Copy for probate. Signed by Fox, witnessed by Bryan Thornell, Thomas Fuller, William Goddard, and Thomas Goddard. Certificate of probate in consistory court of Canterbury, 1 Feb 1711, traces of seal; duty stamps.
