Scope and Contents
On 20 Feb 1734/5 the mayor, bailiffs and burgesses of Cambridge leased to John Lancaster of Cambridge, gent, a 'certain leantoo' on a riverside site in the parish of St Clement, Cambridge, formerly occupied by John Fisher, with the right to erect a 'crane or engine' upon the site, on a 40- (altered to 21-) year lease. In consideration of one guinea, Lancaster now assigns the residue of the lease to Mary Belcher of Cambridge, widow. Indenture, signed and sealed by Lancaster, witnessed by John ?Tormer and Thomas Lombe, duty stamps. Endorsed with Lancaster's receipt for the consideration money, witnessed by Tormer. On 2 Aug 1745, J Ibbot and Thomas Lombe witnessed Lancaster's re-execution of the indenture, after the alteration of 'forty years' to 'twenty-one years'.
