Scope and Contents
The examination of Francis Foster of Bishop Burton, Yorkshire, cordwainer, taken by Edward Nightingale esq, one of the justices of the peace for Cambridgeshire. Foster declares that his one and only legal place of settlement has been Bishop Burton, where he was born and apprenticed. He further says that he married Diana Brett of Kneesworth in St Clement's Church, Cambridge on 14 Sep 1724. Signed by Foster and Nightingale. A certified extract from the marriage register of St Clement's is attached, in which Foster is given as 'of Royston'. It is signed by the minister, Martin Johnson, J Deere, churchwarden, Thomas Nutting, and Thomas Sabberton.
