Assignment of lease indenture, Cambridge
Scope and Contents
Whereas Nicholas Buckeridge of Lewisham, Kent, by Indenture dated 11 May 1646 let to William Buckeridge of London certain land in Cambridge, part of the Manor of St Rhadegund, belonging to Jesus College, and demised by the College to Nicholas Buckeridge by Indenture dated 8 February 1643, for a term of eighteen years: and whereas a marriage is intended between William Buckeridge and Elizabeth Cooke daughter of Nicholas Cooke of London: for the maintenance of his wife William Buckeridge assigns to Nicholas Cooke and Stephen Alcock of London the land in question for the remainder of the term on trust to permit William Buckeridge and his wife to take the profits to their own use for life and on the decease of the survivor to allow their child or children the same, failing issue, the representatives of Elizabeth or William are to take them. Under certain circumstances William Buckeridge will purchase a new lease for a similar or longer term. Witnesses: for Nicholas Cooke: Christopher Townsend, Notary Public, Daniel Cooke, James Forth, Ralph Forth; For Stephen Alcock: Thomas Houlden and the same (except Christopher Townsend).
