Mortgage indenture, Shefford, Bedfordshire
Scope and Contents
Whereas Thomas Hailey of Pirton, Hertfordshire, by will dated 17 December 1808 bequeathed to his wife Mary Hailey the residue of his lands; and whereas George Arnold Hailey of Arlesey, Bedfordshire, Thomas Hailey of Hitchin, Hertfordshire, Mary Leech of Pirton, Hertfordshire, William Hailey of Oundle, Northamptonshire, Lucey (sic) Hailey of Pirton, Hertfordshire, and Charles Hailey of the same, children of Thomas and Mary Hailey, have a vested interest in the estate; and whereas Mary Hailey with the consent of her children has applied to Robert Newton of Hitchin for the loan of a certain sum on the security of certain property in Shefford; Mary Hailey with the consent of her children sells to Robert Newton the land in question for a term of five hundred years at a peppercorn rent; if Mary Hailey repays the sum with interest by a certain date the agreement becomes void; Robert Newton may insure the premises against fire at the expense of Mary Hailey and her children.
