Agreement to levy fine, Haddenham etc., Cambridgeshire
Scope and Contents
Thomas Wrenne esq of Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, in partial consideration of a jointure to be made to his wife Anne, sister of Robert Peyton of Iselam, Cambridgeshire, undertakes, at the request within two years of Peyton and/or Thomas Ithell, Doctor of Law, to levy a fine conceding that the manor of Henghton, Cambridgeshire is the right of Peyton as that which Peyton and Ithell had of his gift; Peyton and Ithell in turn undertaking to permit William Adam esq of Ely to recover the same manor by writ of entry within one year. The fine is to be levied for the use of the Wrennes, then to the heirs of Thomas. If Thomas predeceases Anne, she is to enjoy the profits of the manor until the majority of Thomas' heir(s), paying for his/their education and keep. Thereafter, she is to have #40 a year from the property for her lifetime. The manor is also to be charged after Thomas's decease with any annuities of #10 he may make under his will. Counterpart: Doc 1936. Signed by both Peyton and Ithell, seals wanting, witnessed by Robert Brandon, John Nicolls, and William Cobbe. Endorsed : '(11)' and, in a contemporary hand: 'The Indenture for leadinge of / uses betwen Robert Peyton Esquire / and Doctor Ithell towchinge / Heinton'.
