Scope and Contents

In consideration of #526 7s (divided between the copyhold and freehold purchases) Charles Christopher, Lord Cottenham, Thomas, Lord Denman, James William Farrer of Southampton Buildings, master in chancery, and George Law esq of Lincoln's Inn (1st parties), convey and sell to William Nix of Chatteris, farmer (3rd party) and his trustee Charles Warner of Somersham, gent (4th party), c9 acres of freehold and c3 acres of copyhold land in Hale Fen and Cow Crofts, Witcham, Cambridgeshire, lately belonging to James and Mary Golborne (who had defaulted in mortgage interest repayments to 1st party). The properties formed Lots 4, 23, and 24 in a sale of the former Golborne estate held in Ely on 22 July 1840. Dame Margaret Letitia Matilda Pell (2nd party), who has purchased the largest share of the property thus sold, covenants to produce certain (scheduled) deeds upon request. 17 Aug 1841, four-part indenture of 8 pages, signed and sealed by Lords Cottenham and Denman, Farrer, Law, and Pell, witnessed by Daniel Bockett (?) of Lincoln's Inn Fields, solicitor, Henry Harriss his clerk, and A Pym (?) of Gray's Inn, gent, duty stamps. Endorsed with two receipts for consideration money, signed by Cottenham, Denman and Farrer, witnessed by Bockett and Harriss. Further endorsed: 'Lots 4, 23 & 24' and with a note of acerages in Hale Fen and Cow Croft. Several pencilled memoranda on lots and acerages.
