Discharge of Legacy, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire
Scope and Contents
John and Margaret Freaks acknowledge receipt from John Cawthorn of the sum of £100, bequeathed to Margaret by her late father William Cawthorn of Chatteris, tanner, probate of whose will had been granted by the Ely Consistory Court on 23 Aug 1815 to Ann Cawthorn, widow, William Cawthorn, farmer, and John Cawthorn, joint executors. The legacy had been charged upon Cawthorn's real estate. 27 May 1817, printed Stamp Office receipt (Form No 1), with receipt for 1% duty, paid same day, on verso.
