Scope and Contents
Miscellaneous astronomical enquiries to the Royal Observatory from members of the general public, firms, forces, ministries, councils, universities, societies, institutes, companies, etc., relating to the Moon, including its centre of gravity, phases, the 'Man in the Moon', times of the full Moon, new and harvest moons, longitude, lunar tables, tides and transits; the Sun, including sunspots, the solstice, the equinox, solar eclipses, times of sunrise and sunset, the seasons, the length of the solar year, the angle of the Sun's rays and sundials; stars, including parallaxes, clusters, constellations, the star of Bethlehem, new stars, the Pole Star, declinations and names; planets, including transits, satellites, ascension, declination, longitude and temperature; comets and meteors; the inclination of the Earth's axis; astronomical instruments; astronomical books and other publications, including those of the Royal Observatory; photographs and plates; the Zodiac and astrology; astronomy and biblical and historical events; the work and history of the Royal Observatory; advice to would-be astronomers; and time, including time-balls, clocks and British Summer Time.
