Scope and Contents
Miscellaneous correspondence regarding the Royal Observatory, Cape of Good Hope, including general correspondence with the Astronomer Royal, 1912-1915, regarding work at the Cape, staff matters, new appointments, instruments and publications; correspondence relating to Admiralty proposals to hand over the administration of the Cape Observatory to the South African Government and Admiralty complaints about the Cape Observatory, its staff and its instrument requirements, 1919-1930, with a copy of the report of H.M. Astronomer at the Cape to the Secretary of the Admiralty, 1919; correspondence on the distribution of Cape publications, 1913-1914; and general correspondence between H.M. Astronomer at the Cape and the Astronomer Royal, 1914-1936, regarding the distribution of Cape publications, the Cape Observatory Library, adding machines, the transport of chronometers, pensions and lantern slides for the photoheliograph. There is also a copy of the report from H.M. Astronomer of the Cape to the Secretary of the Admiralty, 1919; a copy of a paper on the 'Determination of the Constant of Aberration' of certain circumpolar stars; and an extract from G. Forbes' journal on the Transit of Venus Expedition of 1874.
