Scope and Contents
Papers relating to the partial solar eclipse of 28 June 1908 and the solar eclipse of 10 October 1912:
Correspondence and memoranda concerning the unauthorised presence of a 'Daily Mail' reporter during the observations of the partial eclipse, 1908, with newspaper cuttings.
Correspondence relating to the solar eclipse expedition to Brazil of 10 October 1912, including correspondence with the Admiralty regarding charts, advice on a suitable site for the expedition, and expenses and the payment of salaries; letters from the Foreign Office asking for thanks to be given to the Brazilian Government; correspondence with the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co.; correspondence with American Express and H.M. Customs on baggage arrangements; correspondence on the loan of instruments and insurance for them, including a copy of the insurance policy; correspondence with the Buenos Aires Meteorological Office, the Cordoba Observatory and others regarding topographical and meteorological information; correspondence with Illford Ltd on photographic plates; and letters from various individuals on eclipse arrangements and poor results. There are also memoranda, observations, the telegraphic code for results, packing lists and other items.
