Scope and Contents

Papers relating to the solar eclipse seen in Portugal on 28 May 1900:

Correspondence regarding preparations for the eclipse expedition, 1900-1901, including offers of assistance from A. Berry.

Correspondence with the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co., 1900, regarding the travel arrangements to Lisbon and the return, including receipts for fares and baggage.

A pack containing a photograph of Ovar in Portugal; two maps of Portugal showing the back of the eclipse; a plan of Ovar at a scale of 1:5000, showing eclipse stations; a plan of the eclipse station at Ovar at 1:100; and a blueprint-style plan of Ovar at 1:5000. The items date from 1900.

A pack containing luggage, labels, insurance forms, etc., 1900.

Memoranda; packing lists; notes of advice on travelling in Portugal; train and tram timetables, 'Nautical Almanac Circular', No. 17; and a proof copy of the preliminary report read to the Royal Society and the Royal Astronomical Society, 1900.

Correspondence of 1900 on the Astronomer Royal's lecture to the Royal Society and the printing of the papers for the 'Proceedings', Vol. LXVII.

Correspondence with various individuals, 1900, concerning the partial eclipse in England on 28 May 1900, including several small scale photographs.
