Correspondence relating to the solar eclipse seen in India on 22 January 1898:

Correspondence between the Secretary of the Asiatic Society of Bengal and the Secretary of the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee regarding travel and accommodation arrangements, 1897, including a copy of correspondence with railway offices and a meteorological report.

Preliminary correspondence with Captain E.H. Hills regarding arrangements for the eclipse expedition and the selection of an observing station, 1897.

Correspondence with Dr A.A. Common regarding the re-silvering of mirrors for the Indian expedition, 1897.

General correspondence concerning the eclipse, 1897-1897, including a letter from Amherst College, United States, requesting a possible letter to influence the American participation, correspondence on the development of the plates, and a request from A.A. Common for prints of the eclipse plates.

Correspondence concerning travel arrangements with regard to the solar eclipse, 1897-1898, including letters from Indian railway companies and receipts from agents and bankers.
