Astronomer Royal's journal, 1893 - 1898
Scope and Contents
A journal covering different aspects of the work of the Astronomer Royal, notably the maintenance, repair, adjustment and replacement of instruments. There is a record of visitors to the Royal Observatory, including newspaper reporters, navy officers, astronomers, V.I.P.s and those affiliated to the Observatory, including Dr Gill and Professor Turner. There is also a partial record of observations; an account of the annual Visitation Day, 1894 and 1895; and a record of a variety of meetings and committees on various subjects attended by the Astronomer Royal. The journal was kept irregularly and has several gaps. Some of the gaps are for only five days (e.g. 7-12 April 1893), but there are others of five months or more (e.g. 13 December 1897 - 6 May 1898).
