Scope and Contents

Correspondence and related papers concerning the Annual Visitations of the Board of Visitors to the Royal Observatory:

Three new warrants issued to the Board of Visitors for the years 1858, 1901 and 1910.

General correspondence concerning the arrangement of the Annual Visitation and dinner of the Board of Visitors, 1897, with a menu; a list of those wishing to attend the dinner; details for the arrangement of staff; applications to visit the Royal Observatory, accepted or declined; and a blank invitation card. The correspondents are W. Airy, W.D. Cronin, W.B. Gibbs, G. Griffith, S. Hayakawa, F. Howlett, Colonel Hozier, G. Johnstone Honey, H. Outhwaite, J. Sewell and Messrs Spicer and Pond Ltd.

Correspondence concerning the arrangement of the Annual Visitation of the Board of Visitors for 1911, with a list of additions to moveable property of the Observatory; a bill and receipts from tradesmen; arrangements for selecting a suitable day for the meeting; and a blank invitation card. The correspondents are A. Eagle, Sir Archibald Geikie and E. Knobel.

Correspondence concerning the arrangement of the Annual Visit of the Board of Visitors to the Royal Observatory for 1913, with a list of additions to the moveable property of the Royal Observatory; bills and receipts from tradesmen; and correspondence arranging the day of the Visitation. The correspondents are W.D. Barber and F.W. Dyson.

Correspondence concerning H.H. Turner's suggestions at the meeting of the Board of Visitors on 1 June 1912, with regard to the use of photography in fundamental astronomy, 1912-1913, with a printed memorandum by F.W. Dyson. The correspondence are F.W. Dyson, Sir Archibald Geike, J.W.L. Glaisher, J.C. Kapteyn, F. Küstner, H.F. Newall, M. Nyren, H. Struve and H.H. Turner.
