Papers relating to the work of the Committee on Academic Dress, 1930 - 1934
Scope and Contents
The Committee's brief was to i) enquire whether University regulations were in need of amendment or should be better enforced and ii) make suggestions for the systematisation of academic dress. The papers include issues of Cambridge University Reporter containing successive reports and discussions; correspondence with A.G. Almond Ltd, tailors and University robe makers, of 11 Sidney Street and A.E. Clothier, University outfitter, of 14 King's Parade; illustrations of academic dress of all kinds worn in Cambridge from the late eighteenth century onwards.

Biographical / Historical
Professor Ellis Hovell Minns (1874-1953) was a member of this ad hoc Committee of the Council of the Senate, formed in 1930, and lead author of its reports to Council.
