Biographical / Historical
This inter-departmental committee, with broad membership across faculties, was established in 1987 with the following aims: i) in collaboration with the Faculty Boards concerned, to promote teaching and research in Russian and East European Studies; ii) to cooperate with outside bodies in the encouragement of research in these subjects; iii) to administer funds allocated for the purposes specified in i) and ii). The Committee organised regular seminars, presentations and discussions of interest to research students. It maintained a senior academic exchange link with St Petersburg and facilitated arrangements for scholars to visit Cambridge from the former USSR and Eastern Europe.
