Scope and Contents
Papers relating to transactions with the Royal Society, including correspondence with its members. The material includes records of 'galvanic earth currents on days of tranquil magnetism'; lists of candidates for election to the Royal Society; a list of members of the Royal Society, 1871; and reports by Airy on several papers. There are also the following papers by Airy: 'Corrections to the computed lengths of waves of light published in the 'Philosophical Transactions' of the year 1868', 'On a supposed alteration in the amount of Astronomical Aberration of Light, produced by the passage of the light through a considerable thickness of refracting medium', 'Experiments on the directive force of large steel magnets, of bars of magnetized soft iron and of galvanic coils, in their action on external small magnets', 'On a supposed periodicity in the elements of terrestrial magnetism with a period of 26 1/3 days', and 'Magnetical observations in the Britannia and Conway Tubular Iron Bridges'.
