Scope and Contents

Letters from various British and international observatories on filling vacancies, with enclosed testimonials; the foundation of a new observatory in Hong Kong; work at Indian observatories; covering letters to reports; and observatory reports. The correspondents include J.L.E. Dreyer, E.J. Stone, C. Pritchard, Earl Rosse, Sir H. Thompson, E.J. Cooper, W. Spottiswoode, L. Mallet, N.R. Pogson, T.H. Huxley, E. Dunkin, O. Struve, G.G. Stokes, Earl Portsmouth, R.S. Churchill, Earl Kimberley, J.C. Adams, J.T.R. Robinson, H. Merivale, J.S. Holden, E.W. Maunder, G.M. Whipple, C. Meldrum, A.E.B. Mouchez and W. White. The correspondence is primarily with W.H.M. Christie, but also includes a few of Airy's letters. There is also a photograph of the Moon and pieces from 'The Oxford University Gazette', 'Madras Mail', 'China Mail', 'Daily Press' and 'L'Electricite'.
