Scope and Contents
Wisbech, 26 May 10 Geo I [1724]. Pleas before John Raby, chief justice of the Isle of Ely. There is no gaol delivery.
- 1r. Charles King, gentleman, brought a suit against John King, gentleman, relating to 18 acres of marshland with appurtenances in Upwell. This is a common recovery.
- 1v. John Leeds complains against Robert Mewtas of Manea, gentleman, and Mary Mewtas of the same place, widow, in an action of trespass on the case relating to a promissory note of 9 Feb. 1722 at Manea. Damages to be assessed.
- 1v. Thomas Carter, gentleman, against Robert Mewtas of Manea, cleric, in an action of trespass on the case that Mewtas was indebted in the sum of 41 shillings and six pence for goods and services rendered, 15 July 1723 at Manea. Damages to be assessed.
- 2r. Richard Pope complains against Charles Leeds and John Thurton of Haddenham, labourers, and Elizabeth Beau of Haddenham, widow, in an action of trespass and ejection that on 1 Jan. 1724 they ejected Pope from a toft or cottage, 12 acres of land and six acres of marshland with appurtenances in Gall Fen, Hill Row and Aldreth in the parish of Haddenham which Mary Sparling, widow, had leased to Pope for a term which not yet expired. The defendants are acquitted.
- 2r. Richard Pope complains against John Legg of Ely, labourer, in an action of trespass and ejection that on 1 Jan. 1774 he ejected Pope from a messuage and a cottage with appurtenances in Ely which Thomas Bench had leased to Pope for a term which had not yet expired. Legg acquitted.
- 2r. Simon Goodman complains against John Andrews of March, butcher, in an action of trespass on the case that Andrews was indebted in the sum of 19 pounds and ten shillings for diverse goods and wares, 1 Jan. 1723 at March. Damages to be assessed.
- 2v. Thomas Carter renounces his suit against Thomas Ridley of Earith, Huntingdonshire, yeoman, in an action of trespass. Ridley acquitted.
- 2v. Anthony Wells complains against George Warth of March in an action of trespass on the case relating to the possession of 12 soup plates worth 40 shillings, 10 Jan. 1724/5 at March. Warth fined; to pay costs and damages.
- 2v. Anthony Wells complains against George Warth of March in an action of trespass that on 10 Jan. 1724/5 he broke into Wells’ house at March, and took and carried away 24 bottles of claret wine, 24 bottles of white wine, various barrels of wine, chamber pots, strains, a hewing copper, kettles, drinking glasses, tobacco pipes and other paraphernalia. Warth arrested; to pay costs and damages.
- 2v. Shepherd Cook of Wisbech, yeoman, answered John Thompson in an action of trespass on the case in an action of account, 7 Mar. 1722 at Wisbech. Cook to pay costs and damages.
- 3r. Ely: pleas before John Raby, 5 Oct. 11 Geo I [1724]
- 3v. (13) Robert Rayner complains against Thomas Steevens of Downham, labourer, in an action of trespass on the case that Steevens was indebted in the sum of 100 shillings for diverse goods and wares, 1 May 1724 at Witchford. Steevens fined; to pay costs and damages.
- 3v. (14) Richard Pope complains against George Lea of Welney, Norfolk, yeoman, and Susan, his wife, in an action of trespass and ejection that on 25 Mar. 1723 they ejected Pope from six acres of meadow, six acres of pasture and six acres of marshland with appurtenances in Littleport which Edward Partheriche esquire had leased to Pope for a term which had not yet expired. George and Susan Lea arrested; to pay costs and damages.
- 4r. (15) Guy Bigby, gentleman, complains against Thomas Waddelow senior of Littleport, yeoman, in an action of trespass on the case that Waddelow was indebted in the sum of 100 shillings for work or labour rendered, 1 May 1724 at Witchford. Waddelow fined; to pay costs and damages.
- 4r. (16) Robert Goodrich complains against William Hardy of Wisbech, tailor, in an action of trespass on the case relating to the possession of a foot of cloth, comprising four yards to the value of 16 shillings, 1 May 1723 at Wisbech. Hardy arrested; to pay costs and damages.
- 4r. (17) Daniel Warner complains against Thomas Brand of Witchford, yeoman, in an action of trespass on the case relating to a promissory note, 1 May 1723 at Witchford. Damages to be assessed.
- 4v. (18) Robert Baker complains against Thomas Barber of Whittlesey, gentleman, in an action of trespass on the case that Barber was indebted in the sum of seven pounds for 24 pairs of shoes, 1 June 1724 at Whittlesey. Barber fined; to pay costs and damages.
