Pleas before John Raby at Wisbech, 14 May 8 Geo I [1722]

  1. 1r. John Adams brought a suit against Martin Wilkin, gentleman, relating to a messuage, a barn or store-house, a stable, a garden, 30 acres of marshland with appurtenances in Wisbech. This is a common recovery.
  2. 1v. Thomas Mallabar, cleric, complains against Jeremiah Hunston of Wisbech St Peter, cleric, in an action of trespass on the case relating to the possession of two documents, one of parchment and one of [?writing], to the value of 100 pounds, 1 Apr. 1721 at Wisbech St Peter. The entry is incomplete; no outcome stated.
  3. 1v. William Freeman complains against Thomas Taylor of Sutton, yeoman, in an action of trespass that on 23 Dec. 1721 his livestock trampled and overgrazed the grass growing in Freeman’s close at Sutton causing damage. The entry is incomplete; no outcome stated.
  4. 1v. William [Brigg] complains against John Porter of Haddenham, yeoman, in an action of trespass that on 2 Aug. 1721 his livestock trampled and overgrazed the grass growing in [Brigg’s] close of pasture situated between the close of Porter and an orchard in the possession of Jeremiah Burges at Haddenham. The entry is incomplete; no outcome stated.
  5. 1v. James Tower complains against Edmund Bently of Haddenham, labourer, in an action of trespass and ejection that on 1 Jan. 1722 he ejected Tower from a messuage in Linden End in the parish of Haddenhan which Turnbull Frohock had leased to Tower. [Tower to recover possession].
  6. 2r. Martin Towerson complains against William Russell of Wentworth, cleric, in an action of trespass on the case that Russell was indebted in the sum of 100 shillings and six pence for diverse goods and wares, 1 Feb. 1722 at Wentworth. Damages to be assessed.

Pleas before John Raby at Ely, 15 Oct. 9 Geo I [1722]

  1. 2r. (7) Richard Hartop of Wisbech, baker, answered David Rogers and [?Edna], his wife, in an action that on 8 Sept. 1722 he assaulted Edna at Wisbech. Damages to be assessed.
  2. 2r. (8) Benjamin Westwood renounces his suit against Alexander Merry in an action of trespass on the case. Merry acquitted.
  3. 2r. (9) Thomas Story renounces his suit against Geoffrey Wildbore in an action of trespass on the case. Wildbore acquitted.
  4. 2v. (10) Benjamin Bird renounces his suit against Simon Pool in an action of trespass on the case. Pool acquitted.
  5. 2v. (11) Edward Outlaw renounces his suit against Richard Read of Haddenham in an action of trespass on the case. Read acquitted.

Pleas before John Raby at Wisbech, 4 June 9 Geo I [1723]

  1. 3r. (12) William Sneesby complains against Theophratus Yworth of Chatteris, yeoman, in an action of trespass on the case that Yworth was indebted in the sum of 40 shillings for various quantities of meat (lamb, beef, calf), 1 May 1723 at Chatteris. Damages to be assessed.
  2. 3r. (13) Robert Cropley of Witchford, yeoman, is summoned to answer Hester [Esther] Mallabar in an action of debt of 20 pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 5 May 1721 at Witchford. Cropley fined; to costs and damages.
  3. 3r. (14) Elizabeth Boone of Whittlesey, widow, and Thomas Boone of the same place, yeoman, answered Nathaniel Cook in an action that on 1 Apr. 1723 they ejected Cook from 20 acres of land, 20 acres of pasture, 20 acres of meadow and 20 acres of marshland with appurtenances in Whittlesey which Thomas Rippener had leased to Cook for a term which had not expired. Elizabeth and Thomas Boone arrested; to pay costs and damages.
  4. 3r. (15) Theophratus Yworth renounces his suit against John Haye of Chatteris, yeoman, in an action of debt. Haye acquitted.
  5. 3v. (16) Frances Blith, widow, renounces her suit against John Haye of Chatteris, yeoman, in an action of debt. Haye acquitted.

Pleas before John Raby at Ely, 14 Oct. 10 Geo I [1723]

  1. 4r. (17) John Porter brought a suit against Aungier Peacock, gentleman, relating to eight acres of land with appurtenances in Ely. This is a common recovery.
  2. 4v. (18) Martha Saltmarsh of Ely, spinster, answered Anne Denton, widow and executor of the will of Henry Denton, lately her husband, deceased, in an action of trespass on the case that Saltmarsh was indebted in the sum of 40 shillings for diverse goods and wares, 5 Aug. 1723 at Ely. Denton fined for bringing a false claim; Saltmarsh acquitted.
  3. 4v. (19) Edward Witty of Ely, butcher, is summoned to answer William Charters and Catherine, his wife, executor of the will of Nicholas Chambers of Ely, deceased, in an action of debt of six pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 27 Apr. 1709 at Ely. The bond of obligation is recited. To proceed to jury trial.
  4. 4v. (20) Henry Piggott complains against Edward Wittey of Ely, butcher, in an action of debt relating to a bond of obligation of 20 May 1722 at Witchford. The bond of obligation is recited. To proceed to jury trial.
  5. 5r. (21) Richard Smith of Wisbech St Peter, victualler, answered Robert Wensley, gentleman, in an action that on 2 July 1723 at Wisbech he slandered Wensley by publicly saying, ‘You are a broken rogue and all your family are broke. You are nothing of yourself but what you have cheated your nephews of.’ To proceed to the next session.
  6. 5r. (22) Robert Sutton complains against William Levitt of Aldreth in the parish of Haddenham, yeoman, in an action of trespass that his livestock trampled and overgrazed the grass growing in Sutton’s closes, one called Hitchs close and one called the ten acre close at Aldreth, causing damage. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  7. 5r. (23) Robert Wensley, gentleman, complains against Richard Smith of Wisbech St Peter, victualler, in an action that on 2 July 1723 he assaulted Wensley at Wisbech St Peter. To proceed to jury trial.
