Scope and Contents

Inserted at the beginning are expenses of £400 incurred on a journey made by Andrew Snape, John Branthwayt, Henry Penrice, William Grigg and Hentry Plumtre on behalf of the University to and from the University of Frankfurt am Oder, Mar.-June 1706.
The graces concern degrees and other matters. The ordo senioritatis is frequently emended or supplied entire by Romilly.

p.118: Dec. 1675 inserted file of two petitions to the Crown and a covering letter to the Chancellor, concerning the rectory of Somersham;
p.201: inserted copy of privy seal letter permitting the award of a number of degrees by the Vice-Chancellor between 30 Sept. and 6 Oct. 1681 during visit of King and Queen;
p.215: 28 Mar. 1682 inserted copy of loyal address on the occasion of the Duke of Monmouth's rebellion;
p.386*: 19 Jan. 1694/5 inserted letter of Mayor of Warwick and others to the University with thanks for its gift of £100 for relief of fire victims;
p.414*: Apr. 1697 inserted draft address of University to Duke of Manchester elected High Steward;
pp.487-8: 1702-3 inserted BA ordo senioritatis by Joseph Romilly;
pp.518-19: Sept.-Oct. 1705 dispute with Mayor and Burgesses about infringement of the University's liberties by licensing a theatre at the Paper Mills;
p.529: 15 Mar. 1705/6 text of address to the University of Frankfurt am Oder;
p.532: 17 June 1706 text of address to Queen Anne on the Duke of Marlborough's victory;
p.534: 20 July 1706 suspension of Thomas Tudway, Professor of Music;
p.543: Dec. 1706 apology of Thomas Tudway;
p.544: 2 Apr. 1707 text of address to Queen Anne on the union of England and Scotland;
pp.627-8: 23 Aug. 1714 text of address to George I on his accession;
p.652: 4 Oct. 1715 inserted reply of Lord Townshend to the University's letter of thanks for his part in the gift of the library of Bishop Moore;
p.668: issue of St James's Evening Post, 16-19 Mar. 1717/18, containing a copy of the University's address of congratulation to George I.
With the book is a separate index in the hand of Joseph Romilly, signed by Registrary W. Hustler, 1832.
