Examinations records, 1880 - 1998
Scope and Contents
These records relate to the various qualifications awarded by the University down the decades, such as the Certificate in Education, first awarded in 1880, reconstituted from 1977 as the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE); the Examination in Education, 1971-9, for undergraduates, which awarded a B.Ed. to external candidates and a B.A. to University students who had already passed a Part I in another Tripos; and from 1979, the Education Tripos.

Within the archives of the Departtment of Education, predecessor, successor and allied bodies, personal records are closed to scholars for 80 years from the date of creation under data protection legislation. Restrictions are clearly indicated in catalogue entries.

The contents of this section were radically reorganised to bring record series together in Oct. 2001, hence the apparent illogicality of the numbering system. EDUC 19/15-18, 30, 91, 110, 114, 133-5: numbers not used following reclassification.
General
EDUC 19/110 were destroyed as duplicates in Oct. 2001. EDUC 19/6A-18 were destroyed as duplicates in April 2006 and numbers up to 14 reassigned.
