Scope and Contents
A.B. denotes Artium Baccalaureus, the form usually used until the mid-nineteenth century in Cambridge of the more widely used BA (Baccalaureus in Artibus), Bachelor of Arts. Entries for the years 1500-1645 and 1717-35 are in Richardson's hand. Gaps, 1590-1602/3, are supplied by Joseph Romilly, Registrary 1832-62, at the end of the volume.

Biographical / Historical
William Richardson was admitted to Emmanuel College, 1716; B.A. 1720, M.A. 1723, D.D. 1735. Master of Emmanuel College, 1736-75. Vice- Chancellor, 1737-8, 1769-70. 'An industrious antiquary' (according to Venn Alumni Cantabrigienses Part I, Vol. III).
