Scope and Contents

This section contains material relating to all the main areas of research work carried out by Bateson in the course of his career, from his earliest research on ivory gulls in the Arctic Circle to imprinting in birds, perceptual learning in rhesus monkeys, mate choice and sexual selection, animal play, the role of behaviour and development in evolution, and animal welfare particularly in relation to hunting and dog breeding. Comprises research notebooks, experiment data, loose notes, collections of offprints and photographs.
